The obvious thing about one's own body, especially one's own face, is that although it is always where we are - it is quite unfamiliar. I doubt if I would recognise myself if I passed my own image in the street. The self portrait project holds out the possibility of viewing oneself unexpectedly, as another might see one. Actually, in this case, of course, the casual posture is fairly planned.

The fairly random editing in picassa here reduces the realism and reinforces the abstract shapes in the picture.
